, thank you for that. >>> today the supreme court will take up a fascinating case involving obama care and whether or not for-profit companies have religious freedom when it comes to providing contraceptives. nbc's tracie potts is live in washington with the latest. tracie, good morning. >> hey, mara. good morning, everyone. several cases with that issue have made their way up to the supreme court, and today, behind closed doors, the justices are going to decide whether they will hear some or all of those cases together. the issue here is the employer mandate, the fact that companies with 50 or more employees have to provide some sort of health insurance plan, and those plans must cover birth control. well, what if there's a religious objection by the owners of the company? do they have to provide that insurance? that is the issue. and the supreme court has to decide whether or not they're going to hear those cases. they also may hear the issue of whether individuals paying premiums who object to birth control have to pay for that insurance. now, if the court decides to take any of the

, richard. >> all right, sarah, thank you so much. appreciate it. >>> today, the supreme court takes up the case involving obama care. the question, does the requirement to provide contraceptives to employees violate a company's right to religious freedom? nbc's tracie pots has more on that for us. good morning. >> reporter: richard, good morning. the justices will be asked whether to look at any of the cases, there are several that have worked their way up to the u.s. supreme court. nearly 40 companies in all arguing that even though they're required to provide health insurance under the health law, if that health insurance includes birth control, it is a violation of their rights under the religious freedom restoration act. they also look at individual employees having to pay premiums. the individual mandate that we talked about so much. but if they have a religious objection, should they be required to pay for that type of insurance for that type of coverage? if the justices decide to take up one of these cases, it could be next spring before they're argued, late june before we get a

're not board about barack obama -- worried about barack obama. gregg: good point. judith miller, thank you so much. all right. heather: the obama administration prooazing some new rules for tax-exempt political groups and coming after the irs scandal, you'll remember that, this which it targeted conservative groups, this proposal drawing lots of scrutiny. chief political correspondent carl cameron's live in washington. carl, what exactly are these new rules? >> reporter: well, they're really nowhere near approval yet, but the obama administration really wants to change the rules that govern political fund raising and spending by these so-called social welfare groups that are known as 501c4s in the u.s. tax code. we're talking about super pacs, really, the kind that don't disclose their donors. an example would be americans for prosperity, the right. on the left, you've got groups like requireties usa which raises tens of billions of dollars and rub by former obama aides and staffers and is trying to divvy up duties in order to be more effective this year. all of this in the wake of the irs' a
